The Best Hot Rollers for Your Hair Type

In pageantry hot rollers are a girl’s best friend! They are the easiest way to get long-lasting curls without having to plug in a curling iron or wand. The night before a competition, the best thing you can do to save yourself time before competition is to roll your hair up in rollers, whether they be flexi rods, or hair rollers. The difficulty in using hot rollers is finding which ones work best with your hair texture. If you are short on time and want roller fresh curls without sleeping in them, then the best alternative is hot rollers. Hot rollers are similar to everyday hair rollers but are placed in a heated tray prior to usage.
The heat allows for the curls to form faster and will leave your hair with a beautiful shine. Below I will give you the best hot rollers to use for fine hair, thick hair, and long hair.

Important Tip!

Before placing any rollers in your hair, ensure that your hair is properly shampooed and conditioned to prevent any buildup from disrupting the curl pattern you are trying to achieve.

The best hot rollers for THICK HAIR:

If you are a girl that has thick hair, it is recommended that you seek rollers that have a larger shaft that allows for your hair to wrap around the roller with much more ease. In utilizing the wider roller, the hair lays better and the curls are less frizzy. Less frizz means a more romantic curl and plenty of body.  The best hot roller in this category has to be the Caruso Hot Rollers. You can find these rollers at most retailers for under $45. They create more steam, which in turn, allows the hair follicles to seal and define the curl. They’re perfect for thick hair!

The best hot rollers for THIN HAIR:

If you are an individual that has thinner hair, it is recommended that you utilize rollers that have smaller shafts. For thinner hair, you must section your hair into smaller parts and use smaller rollers. In doing so, you are creating more curls for your hair which gives your hair more volume. For thin hair, opt for a hot roller that emphasizes steam as opposed to direct heat. This prevents any damage to fragile hair, and promotes healthy hair practices.  The best roller in this category is CLAIROL HAIRSETTER ROLLER SET. This utilizes steam in the most effective way possible. You can find this online for roughly $26. These are perfect for creating hair with a lot of bounce and volume.

The best hot rollers for LONG HAIR:

For my Rapunzels of the world, you need to opt for hair rollers that explicitly state they are jumbo, or super jumbo in size. This allows for all of your hair to be wrapped around the roller completely, and create long, luscious curls. The only difficulty with using hot rollers for long hair is that if you are seeking a tighter curl, you run the chance of not achieving that desired look. The curl will be loose and wavy instead.  The best in this category is Conair CHV14JXR Extreme Heat Jumbo and Super Jumbo Rollers. The jumbo rollers allow for the hair to completely wrap around the roller. This particular product is roughly $30 and can be taken anywhere due to its portability. Perfect for getting nice, wavy curls on the go.

Where to Find the Cheapest Hot Rollers

In closing, the Internet can be a crazy place. I know because I’ve looked. So in all of my surfing I’ve found that Amazon has the best prices on Hot Rollers. Check there first before running all over town.

And remember, when life throws you lemons, make a face mask! Stay beautiful my loves!

  2. I have discovered that there are NO curlers that work for my hair! But I think I may try out your advice!

I agree with Ashley! My hairdresser’s advice to me; since I have long straight hair that doesn’t like to curl using a flat iron is best because it applies heat from both sides. This is the only way my hair stays straight ever. But thank you!

  4. Here's my advice. I have been doing photos, competing and doing H&M for over 20 years. For really hard to curl hair I highly recommend all one size rollers like the blue ones by Remington and they should not have velvet on them. To keep the maximum amount of volume curl each roller in the opposite direction as the last. That way you will get all day volume. Happy competing!!

  8. I will try! My hair is long, thin, and fine. NEVER seems to stay curled. Gene Juarez himself told me I have "the most difficult" type of hair. I don't want to cut it or damage it, but it seems so boring . . .

I have long straight and thick hair.. I use Motions Foaming Lotion for African American hair as a setting product! It is the only think that will keep my hair curled for hours.. I also roll my hair with Remington rollers and use smaller strands of hair .. You can always brush the curls together to get larger curls.. Hope this helps
